Wednesday we saw Dr. Fred. She cooperated much better and was downright friendly. He wants to see her again at the end of summer. He thought she looked mostly normal (whatever that is) with an exam but said to call if her renal ultrasound was irregular.
Friday's ultrasound was indeed irregular. We waited forever in radiology and waited again in peds for the results. She had a blood test that day to check her creatinine levels. They were normal BUT had changed quite since September (.2 to .8) so we will check again in a month or two. We also scheduled a vcug, which was today.
Today we got there at 9:30 for Norah to get her catheter. It was awful. Nick had to hold her shoulders and I her hands. She cried and asked me to save her and said owie. Nick nearly fainted afterwards. At 10 we walked down to radiology and waited 15 min or so. She had a couple early X-rays then they put fluid in her bladder and took more X-rays. Then, she was supposed to pee so the catheter could come out, they could take more pictures of her emptying and then take another after to make sure there was no reflux. She did rip out the catheter but would not pee. At around 230 or 245 (yeah, seriously that long while pushing fluids, running all around the hallways, etc) she finally let it go. She soaked me and her diaper but we took her and she got the last X-ray done. At around noon Dr. Nau let us know that he was leaving just before 1 so he would call with the results rather than having us stay. So once the last X-ray was done, we left and now I'm waiting to hear.
What an exhausting day!
Addition-
Dr Nau called. No reflux was evident but since she wouldn't pee while they were watching it isn't definitive. He Is going to call a pediatric specialist (nephrologist) because of the U/s and her creatinine levels but he suspects we will redo blood test w/in the month and u/s again this summer to monitor. Will call specialist at c/s and see what he thinks concerning the MRI based in this. I Suspect we will wait and see on that, but we will see what dr. Fred thinks. Early bedtime tonight.
Another addition--
Thursday at school Dr. Nau called. He said he was getting ready to call the nephrologist but that he had thought about it and really thought we should go ahead with the MRI of her spine and get a look at her kidneys, too. With the fluid on her Kidneys, the creatinine levels and the fact that the VCUG did show that she is not totally emptying her bladder, he thinks it needs done. That will be done this Friday, April 3. I had called Dr. Fred before and talked to his nurse about everything and she called back right after I got off the phone with Dr. Nau saying that we should do the MRI, so I guess they were in agreement. We will get Norah's results Monday afternoon. It will be a long weekend of waiting, I am sure.
