Christmas 2017/ Liberty Bowl 2017

I didn't get around to sending out a letter this year, but here is our card. Love that Wes is missing both his front teeth. Norah is missing one of her 2 front ones now, but it didn't come out until after this shoot.

Christmas 2017 was good, and today is the last day of break. We were home very little as we spent time both in SW Iowa and in Memphis over break for the ISU win at the Liberty Bowl.

Norah's Christmas included lots of arts and crafts and Wonder Woman gifts. Santa brought her 2 WW books, a coloring book, and a Wonder Woman hot wheels. Santa brought Wes a Thunder Tracks remote controlled vehicle, and he got lots of legos and Flash stuff from others.

Santa visited early so he could come to our house, which was nice. The kids and Nick and I had some good time together, including watching the Santa Claus the night before and spreading reindeer food. I think this is our last year with Wes and Santa as I think he had lots of doubts this year and definitely lots of questions. How does time go so fast?

The kids had a great time with their Schuler cousins, as they always do. Missing one this year due to the stomach flu. :( Our house all had it (minus Nick who was lucky) the week and weekend before.

On Christmas Eve, we made cookies at Angie's house, which was lots of fun.

Norah and Jillian had matching PJs by coincidence this year. Wes and Norah had fun spending time with Jillian. They are in love with that little baby!

We were back in Boone for just a couple of days. The kids both got much needed haircuts. Norah went way shorter (6 inches!).

It's been a week and I still am surprised how short it is each morning.

We left early for Memphis on Thursday, the 28th.

We had dinner on Beale street that night. Friday was the spirit rally, parade, welcome party, and exploration in Memphis. Saturday was the ISU win (yeah!), and then we headed home early Sunday morning.

It was a whirlwind trip, but we had lots of fun. About 2/3 the way to my parents' house Sunday, I looked at our Nest ap and saw that something was not working well at our house- the temp was at 49 and it was supposed to be at 60 while we were gone. A couple friends tried to get into our house but our code wouldn't work with the dead bolt, so Nick and Dad left shortly after we got back and came to Boone. It was a relatively easy fix (intake vent was frozen shut so furnace automatically turned off), but I am thankful we had the nest or it would have been bad! The house was down to 42 by they time they got here. Nick is getting some more piping to help keep this from happening again.

The last day we have been doing laundry and trying to put away some of the Christmas stuff. The upstairs tree will have to wait until this weekend though.

Here's to 2017.

I'll leave you with the Christmas letter I started to write and then gave up on since I was out of time and needed to get cards sent!

Greetings, family and friends. 2017 has been another busy year for us. Wesley is 7 and in 2nd grade. He’s having a great year, and he is now riding the bus to and from school everyday, which he loves. He actually gets mad when he doesn’t get to ride the bus. Hopefully, he keeps that attitude since he will be riding it for many years to come! School has been a challenge for Wes from the start, but we have figured some of that out, and things are better now. Much less frustration than in years past. He has become a bigger ISU fan than ever and is constantly talking statistics with anyone who will listen. He played soccer in the spring and summer, and he is just starting basketball for this winter. He is currently missing more teeth than he has, or at least it seems that way. He- okay we all- had a rough week in November when Wes had pneumonia, but the third medicine took care of it finally.

Norah is 5 and  in preschool again this year, since she is just a few days too young for kindergarten. She’s enjoying it, but I am looking forward to her being in town for school next year. She continues to dance, but she switched to a studio in Boone this year. Her class does tap, ballet, and tumbling. She still really enjoys it. This spring she graduated from physical therapy after 3.5 years. She was also released by her surgeon this summer, so for the first time since she was a year old, she just has a regular pediatrician and no specialists! She is also in the stage of losing teeth, so the tooth fairy makes frequent stops at our house. Her proudest moment this year was likely when she pulled one out at school and left all of her classmates in awe.

Both kids spent quite a bit of time with my parents this summer. I had school longer than them on both ends of summer, so they spent time at the farm to begin and end their summer vacation. I also had a number of license renewal classes this summer, so that meant lots of time at the farm with Grandma and Pop Pop.

This March, we went on a day trip to the Big XII Men’s Basketball Championship game in KC and had a great time watching the Cyclones win. It was a lot of time in the car, but so much fun. Of course, we have attended lots of events at Hilton and all the football games at Jack Trice, too. Norah has participated in the cheer clinics too and has been part of the halftime performances after.
We also took a quick trip to Chicago and Lake Michigan this summer. Both kids are really interested in dinosaurs, so we visited Sue the T-Rex at the Field Museum and saw the Jurassic World exhibit. They were both terrified of that. Oops. After Chicago, we headed to Indiana and Michigan to a couple of the state parks on Lake Michigan. We had some nice beach time in the sun and some fun hiking the dunes.
