I just remembered that I had not update the blog after Norah's last appointment on November 30. The above is at our CELEBRATORY lunch afterwards.
We had her ultrasound first. Since she has had several renal ultrasounds and We have had them explained to us several times, I know just enough to be dangerous. When they did the u/s, I could see that there was still fluid on her right kidney, but I didn't know if that was expected or not. So, while we waited for Dr. Storm, I had that awful sicky stomach feeling that I always seem to get when we wait for test results. I seriously do not cope with that well. Anyway, turns out fluid was okay because they wanted to see improvement not necessarily back to normal, and I definitely did not know enough to know if there was more or less fluid this time! Again, just enough to be dangerous. At least I only had to worry for a few minutes.
Anyway, the swelling in Norah's kidneys is improving. The right is still swollen and has some fluid but that's to be expected. The improvement from June (her last renal u/s) is noticeable. Her left kidney is near normal besides renal pelvis (the area where the kidney connects to the ureter) has some healing to do yet.
Dr. Storm is confident the surgery did what it was to do and her ureters are draining better now. The dilation in those is going down, too. She is off antibiotics for the first time in months. We will have an u/s and urinalysis in 6 months and then see Dr. Storm in Des Moines as U of I is opening an outreach clinic there after the first. Hard to beat this appointment! It truly was best case scenario with the bonus of just being able to drive to DM this time around! :)
