Christmas Card and Letter 2015

Even though I think these turned out super cute, I didn't send out nearly as many cards as I intended and I have a few that Nick didn't take to the post office when he mailed the majority of them, so I will get those out Monday. Here's the letter that went out with our cards:

2015 started with lots of basketball at Hilton. We really enjoyed experiencing ESPN College GameDay in Ames for the first time and watching the Cyclones’ successful season. The kids mostly like seeing Cy and eating Clone Cones.

Wesley turned five in March and we celebrated with a whole class party at the pool complete with Ninja Turtle cupcakes. He had a blast, even if entertaining 10 four and five year olds at the pool together made us adults a little crazy. He finished up PreK in May and started kindergarten in August. We ended up keeping him in Boone for school this year. Wes enjoys kindergarten, but the majority of stories we hear center around lunch, PE, and recess. He is busy preparing for his concert on December 16. He participated in swimming lessons, cooking class, and flag football this year. He's set to start gymnastics in January.

Norah has made 2015 one to remember. She got very sick with a UTI in February. Three antibiotics, countless tests (okay, I counted: eight tests including an exploratory surgery), several blood draws, five doctors, and four months later, it was determined she needed surgery on her bladder and ureters. We had to play the waiting game some more, and that surgery finally took place on September 1 (yes, the sixth day of school for her teacher mom and kindergarten brother!) in Iowa City. After two nights, we got to come home to Ames. We endured several weeks of waking to give medicine (and the side effects of that medicine), interrupted sleep, and Norah just not being herself.  In October, she went under general anesthesia for the fifth time in less than a year to have her stents removed, and we pray that Norah's life gets a little less chaotic from here on out. Her post-surgery check up including yet another ultrasound in late November indicated that the surgery was a success, so she gets a break from her urologist for six months as long as she doesn’t have any more infections.

We continue weekly physical therapy for Norah's gross motor issues, but she is progressing, if not as quickly as we would like. She's set to start dance in January, and she will join Wes in the next round of swimming lessons this spring.

In August, we took a mini vacation to the Indiana Dunes on Lake Michigan. We spent a couple of days wading in the lake, building sandcastles, hiking up the dunes and racing down them, having picnics, and trying to master the art of correctly setting up a beach umbrella. It was so relaxing, and we had a fantastic time.

Besides surgery and school, fall was filled with football games, combine and tractor rides, and trips to the pumpkin patch. The kids are looking forward to baking Christmas goodies, building snowmen, and going sledding this winter. They are hoping to stay on the nice list a few more days.

The Schuler 2016 preview shows more ISU basketball, spring break at the beach with Syd’s family, and probably countless days at the pool this summer. We hope you all have a great 2016!
