Since Norah's first steps, progress had been slow. She would take one or two steps if we would let go. Saturday, she took one step towards Wes who had just stolen the toy she wanted.
Last night, she was consistently taking 2-3 steps when we would let go as long as she was close enough to the couch to not freak. I went to therapy with Norah today hoping we could get another step or two on top of that. And, that is how it started. She was doing just that to start. Jill, her fabulous PT at CS, just kept backing up further from the table and Norah kept walking a bit further.
She played in the gym and headed down the hallway. It seemed like a long way to me. Jill informed us that from her therapy room to the other end is between 200-300 feet. I can't remember exactly what the number was. She walked and we helped her back up when she lost her balance. She walked to the other long hallway, which wasn't nearly as long but seemed tired.
Nick picked her up, but she protested and said she wanted down. And she walked all the way back to the therapy room. So, conservatively, she walked 500 feet and she walked quite a bit in the therapy room, too. WOW! It's just unbelievable still.
Sometimes, we split PT duty, but I am glad we were both there. Wes was excited for her, too. Tomorrow morning, Kristin comes to see Norah at daycare. I am sure she will be equally impressed. I was teary eyed at CS and then when I called Mom to tell her the amazing news... that Norah was walking, like, really walking, I just plain cried out of joy.
We have waited so long for this. So proud of you, Norah. You've got this! I will leave you with a couple more walking videos from home tonight. She was so excited!
