| Wes- 3 and 10- same bridge at Ledges. |
Wes turned 10 in March and had his 10 year check up yesterday, so I decided it was time for an update.
Luckily, we did Wes's birthday party early with his friend Brady about a week before everything started closing for Covid. Each of them invited 8 others to come and play videos games in this truck. It was a great time and the boys had a blast.
Wesley's last day at school was March 13, the day before his birthday. He took cupcakes and we celebrated on his birthday. We had a trip to Hickory Park a few days before his birthday and then on his birthday we went to Fuji with family and Hymans.... because let's be honest, they count as family too.
We were supposed to go to Great Wolf Lodge the week of spring break, but that was the first of many cancelations. The day after his birthday, my parents came to put up the trampoline they bought for the kids. It came at a good time. That day, schools were announced closed for a month, so we headed to my parents' so I could do school work and the kids could stay busy.
We stayed for about a week and a half. I did lots of homework, Norah learned to ride her bike, and Wes had lots of farm fun. Norah was missing Nick (who has worked this whole time) and home, so we returned to Boone, thinking we'd go back again at Easter.
As things escalated, we decided to stay put. We tried to tackle remote learning but ended up with me just making them doing reading and math and attending Zoom. They didn't see anyone for about 6 weeks. It was exhausting and sad but also we had some great family bonding.
We did lots of chalk art.
There were just too many unknowns, so we relied on FaceTime and Zoom, and I was quite thankful for how close the kids are.
In late April, I got a message that my grandma was end of life. She's been in the nursing home for a couple of years, and assisted living a couple before that, but this was still hard and such a hard time to lose someone. No one had been allowed to see her for several weeks. The kids and I went to the farm to help as my mom was allowed in to be with my grandma at the end. We stayed for a few days, but came home on May 1 to pick up the kids' school supplies.
May 2, we drove to the twin cities to meet and bring home our newest furry family member- Dixie.
Dixie is a golden retriever rescue. She was a puppy mill mom, and we think that she is about 4 years old. She's very sweet but very timid. She has been great. We have had her over a month and we love her.
May 3, we lost my grandma. Luckily small funerals were allowed again, so we attended her graveside service later that week.
The kids made some artwork at the nursing home as a thank you to the workers who have taken care of their great grandmother these last years.
This summer will be different. I will finish my degree (FINALLY) next month. The pools are closed, so we have a small backyard pool to keep us cool, and I am sure we will spend lots of time at Ledges. Unfortunately, Y Camp is also closed and this is what my kids do when I am working my extended contract days. I haven't gotten that all figured out, but I am thankful they are old enough to stay home for short periods of time while I go in.
We have let the kiddos see a few friends these last few weeks. Wes especially was really having a hard time with being separated. He is also sad to have missed soccer and now summer swim team. Norah's been doing dance on Zoom but gets to go back this week in smaller number groups.
