I haven't updated forever, so here is Wesley's 7 year old post. His birthday was last month, so I am just a little behind. We did just have his 7 year well check up on Friday, though. He weighed in at 58 pounds, and he is 49.25 inches tall. He is in size 3 shoes, so he seems to be taking after his parents with their giant feet.
At school, he loves PE, recess, and lunch best, but he loves to read, too. He enjoys math time, but he does not like writing at all. He loves his teacher, Mrs. Bruck, and he has learned so much this year. He does have a hard time with focusing, so we are pursuing some testing due to suspected ADHD, inattentive type. He was actually diagnosed, but with the recommendation of our pediatrician, we are pursuing a more comprehensive testing since many things can present as ADHD symptoms. We will start this testing in mid-June, and it sounds like quite the process (several weeks and LONG appointments). Hopefully, we will have a solid plan for helping Wes when second grade starts in the fall.
Wesley is currently on the Gold team in soccer. He has had two games so far, and he is really enjoying it. I, of course, hoped he would choose baseball with my background playing softball, but he's his own person and was drawn to soccer instead. They rotate playing different positions, but I think he likes playing forward the best (more running and action!).
Wes and Norah continue to be best friends or worst enemies and rarely anything between. Quite often, they go from one to the other and back again within the course of a few minutes. One of their favorite activities is to go to the park across the street from our house.
On the day of the ISU spring FB game, Wes participated in the camp for Jr Cyclone Club members, and he really like that. I plan to put him in golf camp, basketball camp, and swimming lessons this summer. I do not want to over book him, but I do want to keep him active. I also want to make sure he meets lots of new kids since he will be transitioning to public school next year. It will be a big change, and we have really enjoyed our time at Sacred Heart, but I think this is a good time to switch. The public elementary schools are broken into preK-1 and 2-4, so starting 2nd grade when everyone else is switching buildings seems to make a lot of sense. We have been taking him to the Franklin playground a lot. It is really a great playground, so I think that is helping him to get excited about the switch. He will also need to ride the bus with the switch and seems excited for that, too!
Wes is impatiently waiting to lose more teeth. He has still only lost the two, though it seems like another one on the bottom is finally starting to get loose. He has recently discovered the thrill of spending money, so he is a big fan of anything to bring in some money. Before he was quite content putting allowance, birthday money, tooth fairy money, etc. into his piggy banks, but that has changed in the last month or so.
In his free time, Wes likes to watch Pokemon, shoot baskets, swim, run, play card/board games (Sleeping Queens, SkipBo, and Sorry), bake with me, build with Legos, and play with Play Doh. He has also been attending AWANAS since his friend Brady took him on take a friend night, and he really enjoys that.
It's pretty crazy to think that Wes is 7 years old already, but here we are. The years just keep flipping by!
