Merry Christmas from the Schuler Family

As usual, I didn't send out quite as many cards as I intended to. I always start with such good intentions, but then I have a stack of cards left over when Christmas comes.

Here was our Christmas 2016 letter (the emojis would NOT print, so the one we went out was a little less fun):

2016 in Emojis with the Schuler family
🏰 The highlight of March was spending a week in Florida with the Wilson family. First, the four of us spent a day at Magic Kingdom with Allyssa and Jordan. We surprised the kids and didn’t tell them until we got to the “Welcome to Walt Disney World” sign; their reaction wasn’t what we hope for (read: they were way more excited by a novelty lighted palm tree than this sign), but we sure had fun the rest of the day.  Both kids met their favorite characters (Buzz Lightyear and Ariel). We stayed at Magic Kingdom from Rope Drop until all the way until Wishes was over (Disney geeks will understand this), then drove a few hours to join the rest of my family at the resort in Fort Myers.

🌴Florida is absolutely beautiful in March. We had lazy beach days, a day trip to Sanibel Island, spent time in the Everglades (airboats!), and saw dolphins (but no manatees ). Nick tried paddle boarding (he succeeded after falling a few times), and we all kayaked in the ocean. It was a fantastic week. Because Wesley’s 6th birthday fell during the trip, he was convinced the whole week was his birthday celebration!

🏊Wes continues to love all things swimming-related. He spent lots of time at the pool and took swimming lessons both this summer and this fall. He also tried t-ball and gymnastics in 2016 and enjoyed both.

📝 Wes is in 1st grade at Sacred Heart. He loves school, but his favorite parts are PE, recess, and lunch. He’s preparing for his upcoming Christmas program. Norah began 3-year-old preschool at the end of August.  I was delighted to learn that Norah’s teacher is one of my former students, though this did make me feel a little old! Norah is loving preschool so far and had her first program in November.

💃 Norah discovered her love of dance. She takes a tap and ballet combination class and it is the highlight of her week. It is so fun to watch her do something she loves. Her next recital will be June 3 and 4.

🏘 The biggest news of 2016? We have moved! In April, Nick and I decided to take steps towards something we had been considering for a couple of years: selling our home and moving to Boone. Unfortunately, we had a hard time finding a home we loved and gave up in June. Then, September came and we finally found what we were looking for. We moved in late November with lots of help from our families. We had a great neighborhood and will miss Ames but are excited for our new adventure in Boone. After nearly a month, we FINALLY closed on both houses (long story!), and I can send out this letter!

We hope you all have a great 2017. Merry Christmas!
