1 Month Old

Norah is one month old!

She is finally gaining weight like she is supposed to, so we won't have another doctor's appointment until her two month appointment early in December. She was just over 8 pounds on Friday at her appointment. She is still wearing newborn diapers and clothes. She has worn a few 0-3 month clothes, too, but mostly it is too big. She has one pair of newborn shoes, and they are still huge. Maybe she won't have huge feet like the rest of us. ;)

She is nursing 9 to 11 times a day. She occasionally takes a bottle and I had to give her some before she was gaining good when she was too sleepy to nurse. I absolutely do not like pumping, so I am glad we are mostly just nursing now. There will be PLENTY of pumping when I go back to work much too soon.  She doesn't like the bottles her brother did, of course.... She likes Playtex Vent Air and the new Avent Natural bottles. Wes used the classic Avent ones, so I have a bunch of those and was hoping they would be her choice, too. No such luck.

She started giving me real smiles last Thursday at 4 weeks old. A few times before that, I thought she might be, but Thursday and Friday they were for sure real.

This month has been a blur, the first two weeks being up every 3-4 hours to eat around the clock. Now, she normally eats around 10 and then sleeps until 2 or 3, which is amazing! She has met lots of family, and Wesley is adjusting to life with her. He still gets jealous, but does well most of the time. Him going to daycare has been good, so I can get some good bonding in with her while I am on leave.

She likes to be swaddled to sleep, and she sleeps much better that way. Leaving her right arm out is essential though. She likes to have her hand by her face.

A few days ago I started giving her a pacifier occasionally. She likes the Nuk ones. I had several left over that I had tried with Wes, but he never took one. I think she will be a thumb sucker since she is obsessed with putting her hand by her face, but she can't quite figure that out yet.

It's been a fun month and hard to believe that much time has already passed!
